The 3×5.5 cm dimension is used in our iconic stretcher bars, which we call “king size” 😉 (3 cm is the thickness, i.e. the dimension visible alongside the painting).
These are very stable stretcher bars recommended for large or for smaller size paintings when a robust structure and/or greater thickness of the wooden strips are required.
These are made from knotless pine wood, glued lengthwise (finger joint) – as a result, it is possible to make long straight elements, as well. Because various defects in the wood have been removed, the wooden strips are also less prone to warping.
Stretcher frames with these dimensions less frequently require centre bars compared to thinner stretchers. For this reason, centre bar slots are provided as a standard in the wooden strips with a length of 110 cm or more. If you wish to support a shorter side with a centre bar, please let us know in the comments. In the “king size” stretchers, we make all possible variants of bracing – from a simple centre bar to quadruple crossing bars.
If you look for a different type of stretcher bars, see our stretcher calculator or proceed to a different category of stretcher bars.
